Spring breakers, the movie we had waited months to watch. I mean come on, let's be real. Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez, half naked in one movie. That photo of them in bright coloured bikinis and neon high tops we keep seeing on Tumblr sure as hell caught our attention. Most people found the movie rather draggy and boring. I think it was down right amazing. If you were expecting four gorgeous looking girls to party the fuck out and somehow fall in love, then yes, you will be disappointed.
This movie reminds me a lot about Thirteen, directed by Catherine Hardwicke back in 2003. Harmony Korine however did an adult version of the film and nailed it, perfectly. Spring Breakers isn't the cliche I've learned my lesson nor is it the I'm-having-fun-I'm-doing-shit-things-get-fucked-up-but-I-manage-to-solve-it-now-we-live-happily-ever-after movie. No. It was basically the reality of life. Kristopher Tapley from HitFix said "Spring Breakers is a hypnotic depiction of the disenchantment of youth and a state-of-mind film".
It is.
Today, you may think it's just weed and mdma and alcohol and parties and raves. But it isn't. Because at one point, we want more. We want more excitement. Why? Because we're bored and curious. We are always bored and curious. Spring Breakers explores the mind of a young adult today. We aren't afraid of anything. Fear is a myth. How James Franco's voice "spring break, spring break" keeps repeating in a whisper every time they are up to shit means a whole lot more than just trying to seem dramatic. Because we live in this metaphor, you only live once, live life to the fullest..we're young forever. But are we?
